Pookey-Doo is dead.
The eight-week-old, five-legged kitten that was also born with two penises died of sudden liver failure.
Pookey-Doo recovered from hypoglycemic shock earlier in the day but died shortly after on Friday afternoon.
"It's a huge loss for all of us," said Kelli LeBlanc, president of the Westminster Pet Sanctuary, located east of the city in Curran. "We held out so much hope for the kitten and we really feel we've failed. I was bubbling tears all day."
LeBlanc said she was hoping Pookey-Doo would live long enough to receive a much-needed operation to remove the extra leg.
There was an outpouring of financial support after the Sun reported the kitten's medical plight last week and $600 was raised by the weekend.
Anyone who has already sent money will have the donations returned.
LeBlanc is now telling callers they no longer need to donate the money unless they would like to donate to a number of the other animals the facility shelters.
"We thank them for caring so much," she said.
In a bizarre twist, LeBlanc said there was still interest in the kitten even after it died and was buried.
"There were some who wanted the body," she said. "But we would never allow that kind of disrespect to occur."
A quick search of the Internet revealed that in only a matter of days Pookey-Doo's story was posted on "several freak sites," said LeBlanc.
