Yorkshire with pancreatitis. Need help

My 11 year old Yorkshire terrier was diagnosed with pancreatitis in Florida-that vet did blood tests-on fluids for 2 days in hospital-vet up here did not do follow up blood tests as Fla vet recommended. Her levels were over 6000 when should have been in the hundreds-hair looks bad-she is on Purina OM canned and dry-no fatty foods-anything else I can do to help
her-she acts ok.

As a veterinarian who treats many cases of pancreatitis, I recommend repeating the labwork as your original veterinarian suggested. If the enzyme levels are still very elevated then you may need to consider an abdominal ultrasound examination. It has been my experience that very severe cases of pancreatitis may involve pancreatic abscesses and/or tumors. I also personally recommend science diet’s I/D diet. It is a bland diet used for intestinal disturbances and it does not overly stimulate the pancreas. Therefore the pancreas is less likely to become inflamed and hypersecrete digestive enzymes which results in the abdominal pain involved with acute pancreatitis. Hope this helps and best of luck.
