Helping pet owners get health help For their pets

We think our cat got porcupine quills in him. How do we know for sure?

We let our cat outside and he wandered off. About an hour later he came back with something stuck in this skin on his nose. We think it might porcupine quills but we are not sure. It looks like chips of wood but it also might be quills of a porcupine. Can you help?

The color of whatever is in his nose is like a brand new wood color like a bleached yellow kinda. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Get him to a VET! And don’t try to extract the thorns or barbs yourself or you’ll end up hurting him more and possibly making the wound worse. Porcupine quills have barbs, like fish hooks, on their ends and you can pull off quite a chunk of flesh if you don’t know what you are doing. OUCH! And yes, barbs are light colored like wood shavings. Let a vet handle it, please. Poor kitty.

Give kitty a hug for me!

I agree with Taylor. A vet will actually confirm whether your fears are true or not. In addition, you can him and all of your questions.
