Stress in 13 y/o dog that just moved to new house

We just moved to a new house and my dog has not been the same.

She seemed a bit restless the 1st couple of nights, and now she has not been eating much and follows me around everywhere. She is panting a bit and just does not seem herself.

She was absolutely fine before we moved, and it is not like she has not moved before. We have moved a lot, granted she is 13yrs old so I am sure that it is more difficult on her, as it is on me:)

She seems to be doing better today, but how long should this last, if it is in fact stress.

thanks,

I would be more concerned about the possibility of heart disease.

If your dog is stressed you can get a DAP diffuser (DAP is dog appeasing pheromone) or a collar with DAP in it. This is an anxiety reducing pheromone (scent communication ) product. You can buy it at major pet stores or on-line.

Melatonin (human dose for a big dog, less for small dogs) is also helpful.

If your dog is developing geriatric cognitive dysfunction ( old age related decrease in brain function) she might be having a hard time adapting to the new environment. A prescription drug called Anipryl (selegiline) can help these dogs. Ask your veterinarian about this.

If you dog is acting strange, you should have a veterinary exam and blood work to be sure she is not developing an illness unrelated to the move.

It can take few weeks. To ease the transition you can use rescue remedy in her water=Dr. Bach flower remedy 15 drops orally twice a day.
