I’ve read that Doxepin should not be given to dogs who are taking thyroid medications. Is there any additional information on this?
Thank you!

Hello,
Yes, this is correct. Here is information from the manufacturer of Doxepin (used to treat depression in dogs):
Precautions:
The medication should not be used in pets with hypersensitivity, glaucoma and urinary retention related medical problems. Extreme caution is required when used in seizure prone animals. Drug interactions are reported with the usage of Doxepin. The medication should not be used with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, sedatives, antihistamines, norepinephrine, thyroid medications, atropine, and phenytoin. It is recommended to inform the veterinarian about the medications the pet is taking.
Side Effects
The commonly observed side effects include low blood pressure, high blood pressure, drowsiness, rapid heart rate, dry mouth and constipation. In rare instances, doxepin turns urine blue-green in color.

Through you for details. It helped me in my responsibility
So if I read this correct Doxepin should not be used in pets with hypersensitivity, glaucoma and urinary retention related medical problems. The medication should not be used with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, sedatives, antihistamines, norepinephrine, thyroid medications, atropine, and phenytoin. It is recommended to inform the veterinarian about the medications the pet is taking? My vet prescribed it to treat larangyal (SP?) paralaysis in a 12 year old dog with a history of seizures. Now I have to clean his eyes daily as he gets a lot of gunk in his eyes every day so bad that he cannot see.
