What to do if my parrot is pecking his feathers off his tummy?

I have heard that most parrots peck their feathers off their stomachs. I have seen & heard that you can buy a lotion to stop the pecking, but are there any other solutions to stop the pecking? I love my parrot & I hate to see him peck his feathers. He doesn’t peck all his feathers just his ‘lil tummy feathers & some from his neck. Please help!

While I have never had a bird that plucked its feathers, a friend of mine gave her 8-year-old child a Quaker parrot and within a year it was plucking its feathers. They called the vet and found out it was because his cage wasn’t clean. I don’t know if this is your bird’s problem, but maybe it might help. Lotions, if any, HAVE to be vet-prescribed, along with any other methods. Buildups of fecal matter can be invitations for many kinds of diseases, some of them lethal. So maybe try cleaning his cage once a week. Hope this helps!
