June 8th, 2007Lab with tumor. Need some advice
June 8th, 2007I have a 13 year old male Yellow Labrador Retriever who has suddenly (I think) developed a tumor on him abdomen above his hip. When he walks it bulges out when he puts his left hind leg forward. Anyway, I took him to his regular veterinarian today who did a needle biopsy on the tumor. From this he determined that it is a solid tumor (not a fatty deposit or a fluid filled cyst) and he want to surgically remove it. He said he couldn’t determine from the cells that he extracted whether or not it was benign or malignant. My question is whether or not it is common practice to surgically remove tumors on dogs without knowing exactly what you are dealing with? My dog is already beating the odds (he’ll be 14 in a few months) and if he has a benign tumor that he can live with I’m not sure it would make sense to put him through a surgery. Oh, I guess that it’s worth mentioning that he seems to not be bothered by the tumor (no apparent pain), and he seems like his usual self… great appetite and overall healthy.

Hip dysplasia, is there a natural treatment?
June 7th, 2007My 6 month old mixed breed pup was just diagnosed with hip dysplasia on the left side. The
traditional treatment down here is hip replacement surgery which we have refused. I know she can be helped by supplementing diet with vitamin C, calcium, and glucosamin condroitin. Can you give any further advice on natural treatment for dysplasia?
Holistic alternatives to handle fleas and ticks?
June 5th, 2007My 3 year old lab-mix (apx. 54 lbs) had a severe/life-threatening reaction to Hartz 4in1 topical flea meds last summer, possibly complicated by some dead Girardia cells that were the only thing found in her blood/stool test. Her heart slowed and she was horribly lethargic for months. It was the first time I had used it because we were going camping and wanted protection from fleas and ticks. She is fine now, but the vet told me to switch to vet-supplied Frontline as he was convinced it was the Hartz. I did so and she began shaking her head within a day (which was her initial reaction to the Hartz). I bathed her as fast as I could and gave her Benedryl for a week. She never seemed to get sick, but the head shaking continues 3 weeks later.
We are going up north on June 5th and I don’t know what to do. I have researched essential oils and it seems that
Lavendar, Lemon Grass and Geranium essential oils between the shoulder blades was most recommended. My questions are:
1. Do they work for fleas and ticks (lymes disease being my big concern)
2. How and how much should I apply
3. Will bees be attracted to the smell, as she is allergic to those too.

Cat with Colon problems
June 1st, 2007I have a 10 year old male cat that has had colon problems for a few years, he has to keep going for ennimas because they say his smooth muscle is not pushing the poop out so it sits and gets hard and he can”t pass it. They want to take his colon out. Please any suggestion would be appreciated.

14 year old dog has trouble urinating. Looking for natural solution
May 31st, 2007Hi! My 14 yr old dog is having trouble urinating. The Vet put her on Amoxi 250mg caps – 1 capsule orally every 12 hours with food. Is there anything that I could give her naturally. The Vet has suggested surgery but at this age, I would rather find a natural solution if possible. Thanks for your help!
