Cotton Eating Kitten

June 28th, 2007

My kitten is almost 1 year. She was a stray and got her at about two
months. She eats cotton. Shirts, shoe laces, wash clothes. We keep
everything out of sight at this point but this is a difficult problem and I
wonder if she has any diet issues that would cause her to like to eat
fabric. Also, she loves lettuce and demands it each morning and evening. I
just thought you’d want to know that.

Anyway, I’m concerned with this and wonder if you would know how to treat
this.

Sincerely,

Kathy

Is this Parvo? Help!

June 12th, 2007

Hello,

I have a question about my lab that is about 1 1/2 years old. He hasn’t eaten in about 3 days and we just noticed this morning that he’s been throwing up and his stool is watery. Is that a sign of Parvo? He’s also about 1 month late on his vaccinations for this year so I’m really worried about him. Also I have another little dog, should I separate them?

Cushings disease, net vet referral for tests

June 8th, 2007

We are full-time RVers with a dog that has the beginnings of Cushings
Disease as evidenced by the results we just received from a Dexameth
suppress, low dose. We have been advised to find a veterinarian who can
administer the higher dose dexameth suppress and then begin treatment.

We will be in Colorado Springs in late June. Any suggestions on who to perform the
test and prescribe treatment?

Should we spay or not spay? That is the question

June 8th, 2007

Hello! We own a baby Maltese who is coming up on puberty really soon. We have been trying to decide whether or not to get her spayed.

Having been told that not getting her spayed would most likely result in ovarian or uterine cancer (which is totally ridiculous), the idea of spaying her immediately became suspect. I have been told all manner of horrible things that will happen if we allow her to go into heat and don’t get her spayed. Personally, I think it’s inhumane and unfair not to allow her to have at least one litter of pups. From my experience, spaying a female animal causes a lot of resentment from that animal and ruins their personality more so than with male animals.

I would like to know what to expect if I do not choose to spay my dog.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Cat with chronic urinary tract problems

June 8th, 2007

Question: Do you know of any herbal supplements I could try (and the
dosages) for FUTD?

Background: I have a cat with chronic urinary tract problems. He became
blocked a couple of years ago, and had the surgery. Since then, he has had
X-rays, urinalysis, thyroid test, blood work and no crystals were ever
found. In fact, nothing was found. I have spent over $1,000 trying to help
him, and I cannot afford to keep doing this. He has these infections almost
once a month. Baytril is the only thing that works, and I would hate for him
to become immune to it.

Any advice you could give would be appreciated. No one seems to have any
explanations for FUTD.

Thank you!

Question about a tumor on my dog’s knee

June 8th, 2007

Our 12+ year old dog likely has a synovial tumor in his knee. He has a
fair amount of arthritis in legs and spine. Is it too much to hope that a
dog that old would be ok after an amputation?

Thanks for any thoughts you can share.
