I just found a manx cat and I’m worried he has Manx Syndrome

February 15th, 2010

Hello
I just took in what I believe is a manx cat. He has been neutered and I assume was someone’s pet, but we cannot locate his owner. I took him to the vet and she says he is healthy but I am afraid he may have manx syndrome. He is between 1 to 2 yrs old and has no problems walking, he’s s little bowlegged, but he does have issues with his bowels. He seems happy and is playful but I am still concerned with his condition. I read that they don’t live long if they have manx syndrome.

He is so sweet and loving and I just wondered if anyone can give me some insight on what to expect. Thanks for any help with my little Bob (short for Bobtail 🙂 )

10 year old retired show dog that huffs and puffs and can’t discover cause

February 13th, 2010

Hi
I have a Collie that is 10 years old. He is a retired show dog. He huffs and puffs for a awhile and then stops. This has been going on for about a month on and off. He did the same thing about a 1 year ago and stopped.

We had him tested for Cushing’s Disease and the rest of the weird diseases but nothing showed up.

His appetite is normal. He drinks about 3 quarts of water a day and he weighs 85 pounds. We had him to the vet this spring and they wanted to do some dental work and remove a wart from his eyelid to the tune of $700.00.

They could not find out why he breathed like that.

I could use some answers of what to do when this happen.

Thank you.

Lab with ear infection that won’t clear up. Help!

February 13th, 2010

My daughter has a 2 y/o male Lab who has had an ear infection for months.

He has been on Antibiotics, ear drops and ear washes. He does not go swimming. The Vet told her Labs have on-going ear infections.

Is this true?

He cries when you touch his ears.

What can we do to help him?

Thank you

My cat’s behavior has changed considerably. What could be wrong?

February 9th, 2010

Hi,
I have a female Russian Blue that turned 18 Jan 23. Since her birthday she has changed considerably.

She will not eat her dried cat food which has been given to her for the last 12 years?
She does not come to me for attention.
When I pet her she walks away.
When she walks she is slow and almost indecisive when or where to go?

Could she be in pain?

When it comes to the vet she is a terror. They have to wear the long leather gloves to get to her. She was seen 2 years ago had a full blown physical put to sleep all done at the house. She was in perfect health.
I don’t know what to do but do want her to have quality of life and not be in pain or unhappy.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
Ms. Helen

Pomeranian with hair loss. I need advice…..

February 8th, 2010

I am just about to get a Pomeranian and when I was researching the breed, I came across hair loss and or black skin disease as something that can happen to them.

The dog I am considering comes from a recommended breeder who has pedigree info on both parents and is AKC registered. There is no history of the parents with hair loss or the disease. She has told me that she would not breed a dog that has a potential problem and I trust her.

I am considering getting a male that will be cream and light orange.

My questions are how common is this problem and since there is no history of this in the parents is the chance of him getting it less?

Are there any ways to help prevent him from getting this? Anything will help.

Thank you.

Elena

Cat seems to be using the litter box a lot more

February 7th, 2010

My cat seems to be using the litter box a lot (like 5 times in less than one hour).

I have two cats, so I do not know what he is doing in the litter box.

He doesn’t appear to be in pain. He did just eat some food. His ears are much warmer than the other cat also.

Is my dog getting enough water?

February 4th, 2010

My 5 year old french bulldog was diagnosed with attopic dermatitis at a young age.

At 2 he was diagnosed with IBD.

At 3 he was diagnosed with pancreatitis.

Many diets later, and many bouts later my vet thinks we can get it under control.

The current problem is, three weeks ago we started him on a low fat home cooked diet of boiled chicken breast and rice mixed with his Hills WD. He has not taken a drink of water out of his bowl since. After a couple of days, and out of fustrarion, I started to mix some of the broth with some water to try to get him to drink, and it worked. Now I can’t get him to drink plain water. I also soak the WD in water to make it easier to digest.

Could it be he’s getting to much water in his food so that he’s not thirsty? I’ve never in all my years being around dogs seen anything like this.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Does dog with renal failure need a diet change?

January 31st, 2010

We discovered late Friday that our dog has suffered from chronic renal failure (I hope I got that right).

I would like to know what the odds of a comeback are and I’m interested in taking a holistic approach.

My vet said a change in diet wasn’t necessary. I disagree.
