I always thought that veterinarians were supposed to be caring, compassionate, animal-loving people. We moved back to this area last year with our two dogs.
One is a younger dog who is well socialized and enjoys doggy daycare immensely, so he goes to the vet regularly. The other is a 15 year-old beagle who had canine dementia, cataracts and quite a stubborn streak. We did not take him to the vet often because he was old and in fairly good physical health for his age. I took great care in trying to find a veterinarian.
The younger dog had been seen there several times over the past year but not the old boy. Well, the old boy got fixated on a spot and pulled himself bald. By the next day, it was dollar-sized and I called the vet who could not see him until Monday. By that point, his ear and face had been scratched raw and even benadryl spray did not help.
The vet bill would have been more money than we had that day, so we asked if they would let us pay on Wednesday. We had no outstanding bills, but they refused to treat him until Wednesday and the old boy has now died. I have changed vets as there is no compassion in that office, just the need for the almighty dollar. I am overwhelmed with grief.

Do dogs actually suffer depression like humans do? If so, what are some signs of depression in dogs?
I’ve heard stories about dogs being treated with antidepressants and that made me curious. I discovered there are animal psychiatrists and I was wondering what your thoughts are on animal psychiatry? Is it real?
We lost our 24 year old cat 4 months ago and since then my 11 year old beagle has not been his usual self, acting listless and depressed.
What other options are available for sad pets?
Thank you,
Julie

The last couple of nights I have been woken by my boxer trying to stand up. He loses his footing and needs help to stand for a few minutes. Once he gets his footing he seems to be ok until the next night. While he is trying to stand he is having some light frothing from his mouth. He seems to be fine sleeping during the day and wakening without help to stand. He also is having trouble seeing and also seems to be sensitive to the touch of a hand. Meaning that his skin/coat will move when you touch it. He is 10/11 years old. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Lois

Hi, I am hoping you can help me with my cocker poo, she is 14 years old today, she seems to have what sounds like a choking sound , it starts off like she is gasping and then clears her throat, she does not wear a collar, we only use the harness on her since day one, I am not sure if it is allergies or a trachea problem. Sometime ago I had a heart ultrasound done for her because one vet thought that it would be her heart so $350.00 dollars it was not , thank God
What do you think it could be?
Thank you for your time
Mary Ann

I have a cat that is losing weight. He eats fine. His brother was losing weight and I took him in for blood work and they found nothing, this one seems to be putting the weight back on.
What can be the cause for the first one to be losing?

My cat has a red mark on her shoulder and she has kind of a bald spot around where it is.
Do you have any ideas on what this could possibly be?
Thank you,
Kim

I’ve read on a couple of websites about giving cranberry tablets to dogs for urinary tract infections.
None of them say what strength of tablets to use.
My dog weighs about 21 pounds. Can someone tell me how much to give?

Our Jack Russel is (10 yrs) having a re-occurrence of a condition she had 5 years that was diagnosed as a bulging disc by one vet and a spinal fluid infection by a specialist in Indianapolis IN.
She was blind before but vision returned with steroid treatment. This time she was having spasms and sensitivity on her left hind quarters. She is now on prednizone and a muscle relaxant…our big concern now is her inability to control her bowl movements
What can you suggest for further treatment?
