Hello. My dog has developed sudden onset of hives-now being treated with prednisone (3 weeks so far) and special diet.
Is there a homeopathic that could be substituted? I don’t like using steroids.
Thanks

I know nothing about homeopathic medicine but you could try benadryl or other antihistamines rather than the steroids. They often work well. Occasionally though, steroids are the only thing that works. But you should only need them for a short period of time which does not cause long-term side effects. I usually have my clients try benadryl first and most of the time it does a good job for hives. Best to give it 3 times a day. Can’t recommend a dose since you did not give a weight for your dog. Good luck!

Dear Pet Owner,
Antihistamines are usually used to treat hives, sometimes along with prednisone. Antihistamines have far fewer side effects, and no long-term problems. Try benadryl or the generic equivalent, 1 mg per pound of body weight every 8-12 hours. Good luck.
