My dog gets swollen a lot on her face. Just this past week under her mouth around her neck was swollen, and it’s sometimes her check, her eye, or lip. We have taken her to the vet and they say it’s an allergic reaction and that we should give her Bendadryl. Which seems to work, but she swells at least twice a month…sometimes more, could this be something else? We have sprayed the house for insects and out, so if she is allergic to something I don’t know what it is?
Let me know what you think.
Thanks!

Dear Renee,
Without seeing your dog to know for sure, what your vet is saying sounds correct.
Just like people, dogs can be allergic to a variety of things and one of the biggest culprits can be the food your dog is eating.
You can do a web search for dog allergy diets and find a lot of results.
So you might talk to your vet about switching your dog to a diet that is helpful for allergy treatment and see if that helps. If not, you’ll need to do further checking to find out what the allergy is coming from.
Good luck!

Dear Renee, I have alot of experience with dogs. I can tell you it sounds like a cracked tooth to me. Somehow there are food particles getting in and causing this problem. Observe your dog after a meal and see if it coincides with the development of a swollen area. All of the areas of swelling you mention can be related to this problem. The benadryl seemingly helping is taking the swelling down, yes . BUT ALLERGY IS NOT THE PROBLEM. Also, please try not to use those chemical repellents. That is so bad for your animals. Look up natural repellents, there are so many. BEST-YET -cedar repellant works great and will not harm pets. I use it among other natural elements. Trust me, have your dogs teeth checked thoroughly, even perhaps x-rayed and you will find your pets solution. I had this same problem and it was my dogs teeth. If your pet becomes sensitive when you touch his ears that is another sign of a possible abcess forming due to particles getting in a cracked tooth. I hope all goes well. Blessings….Debra…..
I read sewrmheoe that cats only ‘meow’ because humans react it and they don’t do it in the wild.Anyways, got some friends who took in a feral that lived in their hood – it took a lot of time and coaxing but its pretty well domesticated now. Point of the story, to show appreciation and affection it doesn’t meow but hisses. It’s quite disconcerting actually.
