My beagle has been lame in his back leg for over a month. X-Rays showed very little. It could be some arthritis is his knee. He is 6 1/2 yrs. old.
Dermaxx did not work so we now have Rimadyl and it seems a little improved after one week but no where near what I think is better.
Is acupuncture something we should try next?
Thank you.

See your vet for a recheck, then seek a second opinion as neded.
It may be a mechanical problem like a patella or cruciaite injury and may only partially respond to medicine.
I agree with Dr. Mchugh..a second look is needed..you should realize that 7/10 times chronic lameness of the hindlimb ( with normal hip x-rays ) iwill be due to a cruciate ligament rupture and a solid 10-20 % of these may not have obvious radiographic changes.
I agree with the doctors. You can either see another veterinarian or seek alternative veterinary acupuncturist which can help you pet with acupuncture and herbal medicine based on the Traditional chinese veterinary medicine diagnosis. Cruciate ligament and pattela luxation are the primary 2 differentials in this case. Either one of the these syndromes can be approaches by western or eastern medicine. I have had good results in both in my practice. Yes, your pet can respond very well to acupuncture and herbal medications.
