My kitten is between 6-8 wks. She has terrible diarrhea.
She has been sharing a large cage with another cat. This cat is about a year old. Both were rescued.
The older cat has diarrhea too.
I have them both on an all protein diet now. No gluten in the hard cat food.
Is this a good idea, or should I go to prescription cat food? Is there any alternative natural cure I can try?
Thank you,
Deanna

Hi Deanna,
I’m sorry to hear that your cats are having problems.
Things like diarrhea can be caused by several things, so it’s not something that can be diagnosed over the internet.
The very best thing to do is have them looked at by a vet to determine the correct cause so they can receive the right treatment for it.
You are right that food can be one of the causes, but you are making changes with not good results so it may not be the right cause.
Here is a link to a site that has more information for you. I do want to stress that reading about something is not the same as having a professional who treats cats daily look at them to determine the real cause. In this case (reading the website info) you will just have more information on what could be the cause. Please do have them looked at as soon as you can.

Everything else being equal in any young cat or a cat from a rescue enviorment that has diarrhea parasites are the first thing we would suspect. As Rose said they should be seen by a veterinarian and be sure to bring a fresh stool sample for analysis…however occssionally the stool sample will not reveal parasites but we still treat for the common parasites as depending on the age of the cat and the type of parasite they are not always found on the first sample..
Hopr this helps
