Okay kind of a long story- i have a two year old neutered male cat. I have a male and female from the same litter and they have been inside since we got them at 6 weeks old. He swllowed a piece of elastic and the vet at seal laird did surgery and removed it. It is a very sweet cat and he is very attached to me. He is a big boy at 17 lbs. His problem is he runs through the house defecating . He will leave the litterbox from urinating and run full blast through the house pooping. I have taken him to every vet within a 30 mile radius and they call it behavior problem. I can not put him outside because we have two labs and two outside cats. The vets have tried prozac and prednizone and neither helped. He is up to date on vaccines and they have done blood work and x rays. I have 6 litter boxes in 4 rooms for two cats, with different kinds of litter and even newspaper. He will whine when he goes. I have tried the attract litter and I have had the floors professionally cleaned . My husband wants me to have the cat put to sleep as we can not even have people over because we are scared of what our cat will do. i have approximatley a week to fix this or that is what will happen.
If it is behavior , I can’t fix it. If it is some sort of physical issue, I want to help him.
Any questions-just let me know.
Thanks
Sandra

I think the cat is sufferring from a behavior problem, therefore he needs to be tamed with an expert who knows how to tame the cat because if the cat keeps prolonging that behaviour, he will become addicted.
Hi Sandra,
If you’ve gotten the same response from the variety of vets you’ve taken him to, then there is probably some validity to what they are saying. Physically he is able to use the cat box and chooses to dash and poop.
However, since your cat whines when he uses the cat box, I have to believe that he’s experiencing pain and his dash through the house may be an attempt to run away from what’s hurting him. While its still a behavior problem, it’s understandable behavior. Fixing it is an entirely different matter. Is it possible to make him an outdoor only cat?
Let’s see if we have any experts who’ve encountered a similar situation that they’ve solved.
