I just had to put a dog down, and my older dog is now alone. She keeps looking for her. It is so sad; I always thought she would go first. She has had more health problems. Now I am scared for her. I want to make her comfortable and find her a new friend. How long is it good to wait?

I think you will know when the time is right for you and your other pet. Personally, as sad as it is watching your other dog looking for it’s partner. It could end up harder watching them not get along with a new dog. But you just never know right? It could work out for the better as well.
I would suggest getting an older dog for a couple of reasons. One because they tend to calmer than puppies, which would be a relief if your dog now is older. Plus older dogs have a really hard time being adopted from shelters, and yet they have so much love to give.
Good luck. And I am really sorry about the loss of your other dog.
