Hacking French Bulldog help

My 3 month old french bulldog hacks up phlegm every time he wakes up. He seems to be choking to get it up. A vet gave me amoxicilin to try but 2 weeks later this is still happening. The vet seems to think that it isn’t kennel cough. Do you have any suggestions. The cough is dry and hacking rather then a goose honk sound.

  1. Mike Keem, DVM - E. Aurora, NY says:

Your problem is likely caused by an ELONGATED SOFT PALATE. Have a competent veterinarian examine your dog under light anesthesia. This very well may provide you with the answer you are looking for. If that is the problem, it is surgically correctable, and if performed correctly, will cure the problem for your French Bulldog.

Start with a chest x-ray, bloodwork, fecal exam.
