Dog with liver problems. Vet stumped

Hi–my dog has elevated liver levels and is acting very tired, lethargic and not herself. So far, vets have been unable to pinpoint the problem. I would like help in a naturopathic treatment plan to bolster her liver.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

An ultrasound should be performed by a competent sonographer (veterinarian or radiologist) and if the answer is not obvious (ie cancer), a tru-cut liver biopsy should be performed by ultrasound guidance and sent to a pathologist. This will define the problem in the best possible manner. A clotting profile should be performed prior to biopsy. Sedation will be necessary to obtain the biopsy sample.

CONTAMINANTS IN THE FOOD, THE OVER USE OF FLEA AND TICK PRODUCTS, VETERINARY DRUGS, PESTICIDE USE AROUND THE HOUSE, LIVING NEAR A GOLF COURSE, LEPTOSPIROSIS….ARE COMMON REASONS FOR LIVER PROBLEMS. YOU NEED A SECOND OPINION ON THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM….OTHER WISE YOU ARE NOT ACCOMPLISHING ANYTHING. ULTRASOUND WOULD HELP + BLOOD TESTS.

I WOULD USE A COMBINATION OF 2 DETOX PRODUCTS: 1,) CANINE ANTIOXIDANT SUPPORT & 2.) CAS OPTIONS …..FROM GENESIS RESOURCES: http://WWW.GENESISPETS.COM

Many times, this can be caused by a poor diet, RX’s or vaccines.I would suggest giving her a fresh organic diet. There are many whole food supplements to support the liver. RX and Standard Process are some companies that I use. There are several homeopathic remedies that also work great. I would also suggest a mild detox. The Detox Kit by Heel is excellent. If you have any more questions, please either email or call me.

which part of the liver do you want to bolster?
what is the Ultrasound result? What is the histopathology? What is the bile acid result? If these have not been done, you are asking for a treatment without first establishing a diagnosis.

Make sure your dog is checked for Cushings and hypothyroidism.

A product called Denosyl is often a helpful supplement, but use the name brand. Others have been found to lose their potency over time just due to inappropriate packaging.

There are lots of good detoxification herbs like milk thistle, samE and bupleurum. There are also traditional Chinese formulas for congestive heart failure/ascites/fluid build up. The earlier treated, the better.
