Helping pet owners get health help For their pets

Could my pet rat have respiratory problems?

He’s 9 months recent and fairly good sized. He sneezes a heap, though. I use carefresh bedding so I understand its not that, I’m just not positive if I ought to worry. The only different thing that creates me worry is that generally he’s terribly lazy and can just lay in his house. Not sleeping though. But he sneezes SO MUCH! Should I worry concerning him?

Thanks.

  1. Taylor - Blog Admin@VetLocator.com says:

Usually if your rat has a URI (Upper Respiratory Infection) sneezing isn’t the only sign. They usually have increases porphyrin production (red mucus around their eyes), more lazy and lethargic and more unkempt fur. If your rat expresses these symptoms it is time for a vet NOW.

Three other things could be causing your problem,
a)The bedding. Yes carefresh is good, but it is notoriously dusty. Try switching to ecobed.
    b) A scent near the cage, deodorant, perfume, febreeze etc.
    c) A breeze on them, open window, a/c vent, heating vent.

    I hope this helps.
