My rabbit has an abscess

Wednesday, February 12th, 2014

My 9 year old rabbit has an abscess and I took him to the vet for surgery to remove it. The doctor gave me 3 medications after the surgery. What else can i do in order to prevent it from returning? Thank you.

My rabbits ate food that had weevil larva in it. Will they be okay?

Monday, January 13th, 2014

I have thrown out the food and found the source of the weevils, but I noticed some weevil larva in the food before I threw it out. Will my rabbits be alright, or could this cause some intestinal or other health problems? Please help. I’m worried. – Venus

Can someone help me with my bunny problem?

Monday, September 2nd, 2013

Two weeks ago, I got a lion mane bunny from a pet store. He had been previously owned, but the lady said that it was rare to find a bunny as nice as him. When I brought him home, he wouldn’t let me get him out of his cage without struggling, and when I let him out of his cage, he would hide in places where I couldn’t get him. Is this characteristic of the breed? What can I do to make him understand that I just want to hold him and pet him, and that I won’t hurt him? My mom says he’s probably just getting used to everything, but I’m still frustrated. He’s very sweet, and when he’s in his cage he lets you pet him but not hold him.

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

Rabbit Castration

Thursday, July 11th, 2013

I have 2 rabbits, they are brother and sister and I have no clue which one I should get castrated. I have heard that 85% of female rabbits die of cancer every 5 years but I have also heard that the operation is risky and might kill my female. But if I only castrate the male the female might become aggressive towards it. I don’t mind castrating them both either. Please Help!

Thanks.

Bunny has it’s ears eaten off during cleaning after birth.

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

If a bunny has it’s ears eaten off during cleaning after birth. Will the bunny be deaf? I’m more concerned about the build up of scar tissue. Will other health problem be created due to possible closure of the ear opening as it heals? I just had a litter of 7 bunnies where their ears were missing. Only one ear left in the whole bunch. 🙁

Why do rabbits thump?

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

Our pet rabbit is kept in our room for the meantime while were still in the process of moving and she frequently thumps while were sleeping… she thumps more if my lover is not in the room at night…. does she skip him? Why does she only thump at night? Its very loud and she wont stop until I awaken and told to her to stop; and even then when I go back to sleep she will do it again. Help!

Thank you.

My rabbit is ill and I will be taking her to the vet ASAP, but what can I do in the meantime?

Friday, December 9th, 2011

I just noticed last night that my rabbit has a grumpy eye and a runny eye. Has anyone ever experienced this with their rabbit? I just now noticed that she also isn’t eating and has lost weight. I can feel her spine. I’m calling the vet tomorrow to get her in, but I feel so bad for her.

Tell me your experiences with a sick rabbit. By the way, she’s approx. 4 years old and not spayed.

Thanks,

BJ

Anyone know of a rabbit vet who does house calls near Jacksonville, FL?

Monday, September 6th, 2010

I am looking for a veterinarian who can give shots and exams to dogs, cats, and rabbits.  Also, the vet I am looking for needs to know about rabbits and rabbit health.

This is very important as I am unable to find a vet for my rabbit. House calls would be best but I would also like to know of a vet who is knowledgable of rabbit health as the only vet around Jacksonville is very far away and it is stressful to my rabbit to ride in the car. The stress is too much for him which is one reason I would like someone who can do house calls.

Anyone have a good recommendation?
