My Shorty gets scarred and hides whenever dishes are washed

Friday, August 31st, 2012

Shorty gets scarred and hides whenever dishes are washed or dryed and put away. He has never had them thrown at him or anything. We have had him since he was a kitten. Shorty also gets scarred and hides if a radio is turned on but TV noise doesn’t scare him.

Why these other things scare him? Help!

Can it be false pregnancy?

Friday, August 24th, 2012

It has been about two months since my dog’s heat cycle ended, and she is exhibiting all the classic symptoms of false pregnancy, except swollen mammary glands and lactation.

Can it be false pregnancy without lactation?

This has happened to her before, and I read once a dog does this; she will almost always do this.

Thank you.

House Training an Older Puppy

Friday, August 10th, 2012

I adopted a 8 to nine-month lab mixture puppy. He is well behaved in his crate, shakes hands, etc. He just does not get it that he needs to do his business outside. We have used treats and praised him when he does go out, but we can never trust him to be in the house without carefully watching every move he makes because out of the blue, he will just go! Our petsmart trainer says he is a “dirty dog.” We think he was kenneled for his early months and obviously never trained. Anybody out there know if there is hope for him. He is very sweet and loving disposition. Thanks

Are candies like gummy worms safe for dogs to consume?

My dog often finds candy and eats it. He loves it and I just want to know if it’s safe.

Thank you in advance.

How can I teach my puppy to stay calm while getting blow dried?

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

My bichon frise puppy is only three months old, but I want her to get used to be groomed because this breed requires a lot of it. She’s okay during bath time, but barks like crazy and freaks out when I blow dry her. I have the dryer on the lowest setting, and it’s on cool, so I know she’s not in pain or anything. Am I just not being patient? Or is there a correct training technique that I can try so she will learn to realize that being groomed isn’t the end of the world. HELP!

Please help me with my 10 months old pitbull

Friday, July 27th, 2012

I have a pit bull dog, whos only 10 months old… When we first got him he never scratched at all but after several months he began to scratch. It started off mild & after a couple of weeks it became severe. He scratches and scratches, and scratches to the point were he bleeds, or begins to go bald in certain areas and it’ll look red and really aggitated; he has also become very sensitive to the touch and tends to whine from time to time if he’s in pain. He doesn’t like to stay outside long because of flies, nor does he like for people to rub on him a lot because it causes him to constantly shake. Also when he itches or shake large flakes that looks like dandruff falls off or sits on top of his coat. We try to keep him from scratching as much as possible but we also know how much it bothers him so from time to time we’ll give him some leeway to scratch, or else he’ll just sneak off and do it somewhere else. Another thing he does is bite scratch and lick on his paws until they become puffy and red; sometimes it sounds as if he’s eating himself alive which really disturbs and saddens our family to see/hear. The vet has told us that he does not have fleas and my family and I have tried everything from, rubbing him down with different types of oils to giving him baths every 2-3 days but still nothing has worked and the itching seems as if it’s not becoming any better. I don’t know if dogs can get eczema, can this be some sort of summer allergy because he’s never itched and scratched during the cold months, or is this just a bad case of some sort of dry skin reaction? Were all just really confused, and it saddens me to see that he has to keep suffering everyday. We really need some help/ or suggestions! PLEASEEE, or we may have to consider to just give him away to the pound :(.

How do I train my puppy who bites everything?

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

I am trying to housebreak my puppy and teach him not to chew on everything. I’ve tried the training pads; he just chews them up. And he’s got more chew toys then he knows what to do with, but he’d still rather chew on my electrical wires then his chew toys. Any suggestions on how to break him of these bad habits?

My 1-year-old beagle is suddenly sleeping a lot. Is this normal or could he be sick?

Thursday, July 12th, 2012

He is typically a really light sleeper and would wake up if I turned my head the wrong way. As of the last few days, he is a much heavier sleeper and is sleeping a lot more. Is this normal or could he be sick?
