Cat with chronic constipation. What can we do?

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Our cat has had chronic constipation with very hard and dry feces. Our vet gave us stool softeners that work most of the time, but even then the cat still has ‘episodes’.

Do you have any clue why this might be happening even with stool softeners?

Is there anything else that we can give him to make him regular and prevent this from happening?

Older cat with hyperthyroidism. Having problems with regular medication

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

I have an older calico cat and I recently brought her to my veterinarian for her annual checkup. She had lost two pounds from the year before and I didn’t even notice.

My veterinarian did some blood tests and told me that she has hyperthyroidism. He said this is very common in older cats and that she needed to start taking pills to control it.

I travel a lot and I’m not sure if I can give her the medication regularly.

Are there any other options?

10 y/o cat w/diabetes HATES her food!

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

My 10-year-old cat was recently diagnosed with diabetes. The vet prescribed a special diabetic food, but my cat doesn’t like it and refuses to eat it.

Does anyone have any suggestions to help get my cat to eat her food or at least to eat better?

I’m tearing my hair out!!!!

How can I tell if my dog is depressed?

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Do dogs actually suffer depression like humans do?  If so, what are some signs of depression in dogs?

I’ve heard stories about dogs being treated with antidepressants and that made me curious. I discovered there are animal psychiatrists and I was wondering what  your thoughts are on animal psychiatry?  Is it real?

We lost our 24 year old cat 4 months ago and since then my 11 year old beagle has not been his usual self, acting listless and depressed.

What other options are available for sad pets?
Thank you,

Cat losing weight despite eating well. Reason?

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

I have a cat that is losing weight. He eats fine. His brother was losing weight and I took him in for blood work and they found nothing, this one seems to be putting the weight back on.

What can be the cause for the first one to be losing?

Cat with red mark and missing fur around it. What is it?

My cat has a red mark on her shoulder and she has kind of a bald spot around where it is.

Do you have any ideas on what this could possibly be?

Thank you,

23 year old cat is going downhill fast

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Our 23 year old cat has a severe cough and is sneezing, she has been on azithromycin for ten days and then vibramycin ten days and is deteriorating and loosing her appetite and is not drinking a lot. She had 2 I.V.’s about a week ago, and blood work. x-ray did not show pneumonia. I need holistic help. She is in delicate health and I hate to take her outside now, because it is cold.

Can I pay for a consultation over the phone or would she need to be seen? The situation is getting very serious. She is eating a little cooked sirloin 4% with olive oil, boiled in water, and Gerber baby food and chicken.

Thank you

Older cat has lost her vitality

Monday, March 29th, 2010

I have an 18 1/2 year old cat who is acting like she does not feel well. She looks listless and sleeps a lot and her fur looks dull.

I’ve taken her to the vet on 3 different occasions but, other than telling me she’s getting old, they can’t find anything wrong with her.

I want to help her feel better and have run out of things to do for her. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you

My cat has cancer of the larynx and I want to help him

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

My cat has a tumor in front of his larynx. It’s big and it’s getting harder for him to swallow. We found out too late that he had cancer. The vet is afraid to take a biopsy due to making the tumor angry and causing it to grow faster. I need to know if there is anything at this late stage to shrink the tumor so he will stop suffering. I may have to put him down soon. He is gulping when he swallows. I just found out on Thursday that he had a tumor and it’s getting harder for him to swallow. He may have a collapsed lung and pneumonia due to trying to breath harder. The vet is concerned that intubating him will cause cancer cells to break off and go down the throat.
Please help. He is almost 11 pounds and weighed 17 pounds on Thursday. He lost a pound yesterday when I went to get him an iv. He still wants to eat, especially cat treats.

thank you
