Kitten litter box training

Saturday, July 7th, 2012

So I just adopted another kitten, she is at least two months old and refused to use the litter box in the bathroom, so I bought a smaller one for her and put it in the hallway because that’s where she likes to go. And I still can’t get her to use it. I don’t know what to do my fiance is ready to get rid of her.

Thanks.

Fostering sick Kitty, what more can I do to help?

Thursday, July 5th, 2012

Yesterday I brought home a little sick kitty from my fiance’s house.  He lives on a farm, and this is a barn kitten that has an eye infection and a slight col,  runny nose, but no raspy breathing.   My fiance’s mother couldn’t bring him in the house to treat him because she already has her hands full with 2 indoor bottle baby goats, 2 other kittens with the same eye infection and her bird breeding business.

He is on a medicated eye ointment and amoxicillin, and just started treatment yesterday.  I am feeding him a wet food diet because of low weight.

What else can I do to make him for comfortable? Any tips or ideas?

Help my cat with swollen irritated eye problem

Thursday, June 28th, 2012

My cat’s eye has become sorely irritated several times during the past and has cured itself within a couple of days.  However, this time, his eye is very red and seems to be out of focus.  Above his eye appears to be swollen.  He is acting sleepy but restless.  He just keeps trying to clean the eye. It seems like he might have a problem with one of his eyelids.  Help!

Can a Cat have brittle bone disease?

Friday, June 22nd, 2012

Seriously, I don’t beat my cat…he is clumsy.  However, I don’t think he should be breaking bones.  He is four months old, and he has had a broken leg, pelvis, ribs and toes.  Most of this came from when our golden retriever stepped on him.  The others have been from normal kitten stuff.  The vet thinks that he is just unlucky.

We think our cat got porcupine quills in him. How do we know for sure?

Monday, June 18th, 2012

We let our cat outside and he wandered off. About an hour later he came back with something stuck in this skin on his nose. We think it might porcupine quills but we are not sure. It looks like chips of wood but it also might be quills of a porcupine. Can you help?

The color of whatever is in his nose is like a brand new wood color like a bleached yellow kinda. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Ear Mites Spreading in Cats

Saturday, June 16th, 2012

Can ear mites be spread by something like me wearing the same shirt to handle the infected kitten and then handling my other cats? He’s been quarantined since we found him, but his vet appointment isn’t until Tuesday and he wants to cuddle and be held all the time. I wash my hands after, but I have picked up one of my cats after this and am wondering if I’m taking enough precautions.

Should I adopt a pet, or let my other two cats have a baby?

Saturday, June 9th, 2012

My grandma wants a pet. Since she’s from another country and speaks very little English, she wouldn’t know how to adopt a pet on her own. Should I go to the pound to get her an adult cat of her own, or let my own two cats have a baby to give to her?  Time isn’t a problem, because she’s staying the whole summer.

Thanks you.

Is it normal for a cat to like eating grass?

Saturday, May 26th, 2012

I have a 2-year old calico and she is an outdoor cat. While outside she spends her time nibbling grass or meowing helplessly at out of reach birds.  I don’t use weedkillers or any chemicals on my grass, so is this behavior unhealthy for her in anyway, or is it a sign of any health problem?

I’ve only had one other outdoor cat in my life and that was when I was younger and didn’t notice details like that.

Thanks.

Sick Kitty

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

My outdoor cat, Nero, has recently started losing a lot of weight, stopped cleaning himself, gotten diarrhea and has lost his appetite… I don’t know what’s wrong with him or what it might be… I am worried it is some kind of parasite that can spread to humans and/or other animals.

I would greatly appreciate any input that can be offered.

How do I stop my dog from attacking my cat?

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

I have a rescue dog who is part Border Collie and part Hound, so he has extremely strong herding/hunting instincts. He has been out to get my cat since we adopted him almost 2 years ago, but she stays away from him and lives upstairs (where he isn’t allowed).  I’m going to college soon and would like my cat to be able to safely go downstairs to be with the rest of my family, but she can’t with the dog behavior. Any tips for dog/cat fighting problems?
