Kitten with terrible diarrhea sharing cage with another cat.

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

My kitten is between 6-8 wks. She has terrible diarrhea.

She has been sharing a large cage with another cat. This cat is about a year old. Both were rescued.

The older cat has diarrhea too.

I have them both on an all protein diet now. No gluten in the hard cat food.

Is this a good idea, or should I go to prescription cat food? Is there any alternative natural cure I can try?

Thank you,

Deanna

Special needs kitten – manx syndrome

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

Hello, I am in desperate need of any help/advice you may be able to provide.

I have a 9 week old kitten who was diagnosed by a local vet with ‘manx syndrome’. He was born w/o a tale and as a result, he has no control over his bowel movements. He walks on the sides of his back legs also. The vets only suggestion was to put him to sleep- but I refused to take that option.

He is very playful, and seems to enjoy his life- he also has a great appetite. I notice that his belly is swollen though, and he does bleed from the rear at times.

I am currently using baby socks for diapers and when I change him I apply betadine solution to keep him clean and a little antibiotic ointment as well.

I want to help this little guy have the best quality of life as possible- any help you can provide is appreciated.

Major concerns: Loose stools, bleeding, swollen tummy.

Thanks, God Bless

Cat with large growth on whisker pad. Help!

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

My daughter’s cat (about 13 years old) has developed a large growth on his whisker pad, most whiskers are gone along with fur in the area of the growth.  He is okay other than the growth, eats/drinks and does not seem to be in pain.  She took him to the vet and they said it is not an abscess and they want to do a biopsy ($600) to find out what it is and if it is cancerous.  Do you know what this could be?  If she does do the biopsy and it is cancerous she will not be able to afford radiation, do you feel a biopsy is necessary?  They said if it is a non-cancerous growth/tumor they could not remove it because it would remove part of his face, plus I am sure that procedure would be expensive as well.

Do you have an advice????

Older cat with bowel problems. Want to extend his life.

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

We adopted our cat Max from the animal shelter 8 years ago and they thought he was between 6-8 years old at the time.

His stools were always hard and we would give him laxatone with his meals per the advice of the vet.

About a month ago he started throwing up and his poops stopped, and he has been deobstipated twice since then.  We don’t feel surgery is the answer for him based on his age and the recovery process so he will be going in just one more time for deobstipation.

We were thinking if we put him solely on a liquid diet (any suggestions for this type of diet) and treated him with herbs perhaps he could recover.

My question: How long can a cat survive a liquid diet? right now he is on cisapride and lactolose, but only drips a pasty black liquid.

It’s very sad to think that he will not be able to recover from this problem.  Are there any recommendations for him?

Thank You

Seeking internal medicine vet for cat with GI probs.

Monday, April 6th, 2009

Seeking an internal medicine vet for a cat with GI PROBLEMS (Gut Dysbiosis?),e.g., multiple large bowel movements,soft,progres- sing to loose stools and diarrhea.

Vet claims she cannot tolerate processed foood,e.g., canned cat foods. He recommends raw or cooked chicken for 3-4 weeks to rule out allergy. Difficult for me to manage. Have 4 cats.

Also giving her probiotic daily (2x, ideally).

I have IBS with diarrhea intermittently.  Am wondering if I am being contaminated by handling stools or if we both are being contaminated by raw meat (or cooked) left too long in refrigerator. Cannot afford vet visits. Have taken her to 2 other vets last yr. They did not address this issue or that of copious amounts of urine.  Blood sugar level sometimes somewhat elevated. Vet not concerned.  She was obese but has lost unexplained wt over several months.

Current wt is 12 lbs. 11 yrs. old. Tested positive for bartinella bacteria in Jan/Feb,2009. Giving doxycycline, 2nd round.

GI problems, wt loss, and copius urine present prior to Antibiotic. Inflammed gums for 10.5 yrs. 10-12 teeth lost. Have had cleaning 2-3 times.

Pls answer ASAP.

Cat healthy one day and sick and limping the next

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Hello. I am trying to get more information from someone who posted on August 8, 2008, regarding a 15-year-old cat who was healthy one day and terribly sick with a limp the next. The EXACT thing has happened to my cat. He has been successfully being treated for megacolon for 2 1/2 years, went to the vet for a check up and the next day was LIMPING. He hasn’t been the same since. Blood tests and x-rays show everything to be normal. The vet seems to think it may be nerve related. Please help.

Cotton Eating Kitten

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

My kitten is almost 1 year. She was a stray and got her at about two
months. She eats cotton. Shirts, shoe laces, wash clothes. We keep
everything out of sight at this point but this is a difficult problem and I
wonder if she has any diet issues that would cause her to like to eat
fabric. Also, she loves lettuce and demands it each morning and evening. I
just thought you’d want to know that.

Anyway, I’m concerned with this and wonder if you would know how to treat
this.

Sincerely,

Kathy

Lead poisoning treatment for dog and cat?

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

I have lead poisoning probably from the city water. I am getting
treatments for it. However, my dog and cat have been drinking the same water.

What treatments should they be receiving. I have scheduled a vet appointment for them.

Thanks.
