My 9 y/o cat Frisky has become abnormally ill all of a sudden!

Friday, August 7th, 2009

My cat Frisky which is nine (almost ten) has become abnormally ill.

It happened all too quick. She was “begging” for food one morning and she suddenly took off meowing and running, and she couldn’t use her right hing leg. I followed her and quickly found her. She was instantly able to use her leg but I observed that she couldn’t hold it in the air. Soon after, I realized she had lost all bladder control, and quickly called the vet.

Nothing abnormal appeared in the X-ray but they did find blood in her urine.

It’s been three days and she still hasn’t improved in the slightest.

She is a beloved member of this family and I beg anyone to offer their opinions.

What are the long-term prospects for dogs on doxepin

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

My 6-yr-old St. Bernard, Olympia, was diagnosed on Thursday w/larngeal collapse and we were told the only help was a permanent trach.

After researching this site and others, I read about Doxepin. My vet prescribed it that night (Olympia was also on a sedative and prednisone)…by Saturday I had reduced the pred and eliminated the sedative (something was giving her awful diarrhea) and by Monday she was breathing almost normally, sleeping a lot, but getting up, going outside, wagging her tail and demanding attention!

She is not 100 percent her old self, but she’s very far from death’s door, which is where she stood on Thursday. I think this drug is a miracle!

Anyway, I have not been able to find any information about the long-term prospects for dogs on doxepin. Will she be sleepy forever? Will it work for a long time?

What is the quality of life for dogs on doxepin?

Thanks for any help!

I would like to locate a dog surgeon who perfroms bioduct surgery

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

I would like to locate a dog surgeon who perfroms bioduct surgery.

I live near Lake Lure North Carolina. My vet says my dog needs knee surgery and I heard about the bioduct procedure so I’d like to take my dog to someone who does this.

Do you know of any good and affordable surgeons?

Small tumor on side of dog’s paw

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

I noticed a small, grey looking tumor on the side of my dogs paw. I first noticed it a couple weeks ago, and it seems to be slowly growing and he is licking it.

It has a couple hairs growing through it.

What types of procedure can i expect if i take him to the vet? Is there a way to freeze off the tumor somehow without surgery?

Thank You,

6 y/o poodle mix with chronic skin problems. Tried everything!

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

I have a 6 yr old poodle mix that has had chronic skin problems since age 3 yr. I have had him tested for diabetes, hypothyroidism, autoimmune diseases. This dog has been on antibiotics off and on for four years. I now live in the Caribbean and of course with the humidity it just hangs around. I have cut his hair down very short. I keep him dry when he gets wet, I give him cod liver oil, tumeric root, I have bathed him in the sea and with coconut water (which the islanders swear by) and nothing is helping him. I even put triple antibiotic powder on his skin.

He had the same problem back in the States but it would only come twice a year. These bouts also required cortisone shots and I am NOT crazy about cortisone therapy.

Please don’t suggest changing his food. There is only Pedigree on the Island (for now). Next week it might be Purina only on the shelf.

Any holistic or traditional suggestions would be appreciated!

Lots of flies congregate near my dog’s tail even tho he’s bathed. Why?

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

When my dog is outside in the rear of the home, we notice lately lots of flies congregate on the top of his rear end near the tail. Is there a spray that is safe for this problem? He just had a bath and he is still a target for the flies. Thanks for a quick answer.

Treating cat for hairball problem, big problem NOW!!

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

Cat has had hairball problems 2weeks ago and again beginning Friday.

Treated with Hartz hairball meds both times.

Was OK first time, but now is lethargic and having some difficulty with consciousness. Rolls head and neck backwards. Had soft stool, caused by meds, yesterday. Sleeping a lot, could this be from weakness of not eating enough since Friday? He is 8 years, weighs abt 15 lbs, was diag. with heart murmur in 2005/06.

Has hidden some as he did when he nearly died from a cyst under his chin in 2007 until last night when he slept with me nearly all night.

Could he be dying – Do I need to take him to the vet he sees in Meridian, MS?
