Should my kids be there when we put our dog down?

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Hello – I hope you can give some advice…I’m the mother of two small kids ages 4 and 7, and my 16 year old dog has some serious health issues and is suffering.  We’ve chosen to have her put down.

This dog has been a part of their lives since they were born and we all love her and will miss her.  I’ve scheduled a house-call vet to come out to our house for this to minimize the stress and let her pass in her own home, but I’m torn on whether to have our kids present for this.

What are your feelings on this matter?

Cat with swollen paw concerns me. Ideas?

Monday, August 9th, 2010

My cat’s paw suddenly swelled up and she cannot walk on it.  There is no blood.  She is not licking it but she cries if we come near her or try to touch her paw.  We need to have a vet see her asap and will bring her in tomorrow.

Can I do anything in the interim?

My finicky cat refuses to eat her prescription cat food. HELP!

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

HELP! My cat is prone to urinary tract infections and our vet put her on a canned food for this.  She’s extremely stubborn and refuses to eat the canned food she needs for her urinary tract health.

Any suggestions?

Our dog has crusty discharge from her eyes.

Our 10 year-old toy poodle has crusty discharge from her eyes for months but now she is squinting and rubbing her eyes. What could this be and is there a treatment to help her?

Collie with dry, itchy skin

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

I have a 12 year old Collie with very dry skin itchy.  She’s always scratching and biting her lower back.  Besides wearing away her fur and driving me crazy, I’m getting concerned.

My friend suggests adding fish oil to her diet to help.

Does this sound like a good solution?  I’ve tried so many other solutions and nothing is working.

Thanks

Something happened to my dog after being outside

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

Hello. My dog recently came in from her usual run outside, and is experiencing pain in her rectum. I’m assuming it’s there, because her tail is between her legs and she cannot sit down.

She whimpers a lot, and her breathing has changed.

Is something extremely wrong?

Caution – Lily leaf is toxic to cats!

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Just a comment.  Please remind readers to check the lengthy list of toxic plants, food and substances to cats and dogs.

My cat recently ate a liitle bit of a lily leaf and ended up with slight liver impairment.

We were lucky because we got treatment right away.

Thanks,
Toni

When my cat is stressed, she pees blood.

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

My cat has a history of peeing blood when she’s stressed. This time it’s been going on for a long time.  Being picked up stresses her majorly.  I’m contacting a house-call vet to come out and visit her but I wondered if anyone else has had a cat with the same problems.

What are hot spots and why do dogs get them?

Monday, July 26th, 2010

I’ve heard of dogs getting “hot spots” in the summer and my neighbor says her dog gets them.

What are hot spots, and why do they happen?

Helping my dog overcome mast cell tumors

Monday, July 26th, 2010

My Weimaraner was diagnosed with MCTs two years ago – he had two tumors removed, one being on his head so the surgeon wasn’t able to take a wide enough margin. After two operations we decided enough was enough and looked into Homeopathy, and found a wonderful Holistic Vet, we haven’t looked back since.

He is taking an MCT nosode, CV 247 (which is also being trialed on humans and is showing very favourable results), Floressence, he is on an organic RAW diet, has cottage cheese and ground flaxseed, fish oils, garlic, yogurt etc. He is doing extremely well, he’s happy, active and full of life, out hunting every day and people can’t believe he has cancer, it’s amazing!

Research has shown that we are over vaccinating our pets, the wormers etc are filling them with toxins and this is the result, all unnecessary when it can be done naturally IMO.

I urge everyone to please look at alternatives as it’s been a complete eye opener to me 🙂
