My cat, Wenci, is 18. He’s been my best friend forever and my baby. I have all kinds of memories that he’s a part of. He’s the most cherished pet I’ve ever had (we had dog and another cat for a while), and I’m not ready to let him go. We thought he was healthy for a lengthy time; aside from a heart murmur and arthritis, he was doing very well for his age. We recently moved a long distance, and he started acting weird. We thought that he was just upset about moving and the brand-new environment, so we let him get adjusted. After a few weeks, though, we figured it couldn’t possibly still be the new house bugging him, so we brought him to the vet. They ran X-Rays and found a tumor. We don’t know how long he has, but I was wondering if there was a way to make him better and live longer, or at the very least, make him comfortable. He’s too old to operate on, and the vet has been giving him antibiotics to increase his appetite and get rid of any other infections, but if there’s anything else that can be done, please tell me because I’m having problems letting go, and I don’t want him to go. He seems to feel alright, because he’s walking around and eating more, so please don’t tell me that the most humane thing to do would be to put him down. I just want to know how to make him live longer or make his last few weeks comfortable. Thank you for your help!

My cat has cancer, what can I do?
Monday, July 16th, 2012What do I feed my Sulcata tortoise?
Friday, July 13th, 2012I just got this turtle from a reptile convention. There was a turtle breeder and there were Sulcata tortoises, so I bought one, but I’m afraid to feed him/her (you can’t find out the gender until it five) because the breeder told me on thing, and different websites are telling me other things.
The breeder said they love apples, but don’t feed them citrus fruits. Dark green vegetables too.
I decided to double check on the internet. It said to feed them straw or tortoise foods, and that they grow fast. It told to be absolutely no surgery fruits, which includes apples. The second website said no store bought tortoise food, and if they grow too fast it causes a lot of health problems, and if they grow too fast that means your feeding them wrong, which just made me think to cancel everything the first website said.
So after all of that I still have no idea what to feed him/her. It just made me more worried on what to feed him.
My 1-year-old beagle is suddenly sleeping a lot. Is this normal or could he be sick?
Thursday, July 12th, 2012He is typically a really light sleeper and would wake up if I turned my head the wrong way. As of the last few days, he is a much heavier sleeper and is sleeping a lot more. Is this normal or could he be sick?

How to control mild/moderate separation anxiety in a newly adopted 1 y/o lab mix?
Wednesday, July 11th, 2012Five days ago, I took home a lab mix which had been living with her three brothers for her entire life. She seems to have a bit of trouble adjusting to no longer having them for security. She does not like to be left alone and will follow me everywhere I go in the house; I believe she is attracted to the authority, security and companionship I provide. She does not exhibit the behavior as strongly with the other members of the family. When gated in the kitchen at night, she howls and whines and causes a fuss. I’ve tried not to appease her, but I’ve found myself sleeping on the couch in the adjacent room so that she could see me. Last night, we let her roam both floors of the house at night, and she spent the majority of the time right alongside my bed.
She is very insecure and does not like to be pet by strangers, although she is not aggressive. Is there any way I can boost her confidence and show her that people are good, and that being alone isn’t so bad?

Kitten litter box training
Saturday, July 7th, 2012So I just adopted another kitten, she is at least two months old and refused to use the litter box in the bathroom, so I bought a smaller one for her and put it in the hallway because that’s where she likes to go. And I still can’t get her to use it. I don’t know what to do my fiance is ready to get rid of her.
Thanks.

Fostering sick Kitty, what more can I do to help?
Thursday, July 5th, 2012Yesterday I brought home a little sick kitty from my fiance’s house. He lives on a farm, and this is a barn kitten that has an eye infection and a slight col, runny nose, but no raspy breathing. My fiance’s mother couldn’t bring him in the house to treat him because she already has her hands full with 2 indoor bottle baby goats, 2 other kittens with the same eye infection and her bird breeding business.
He is on a medicated eye ointment and amoxicillin, and just started treatment yesterday. I am feeding him a wet food diet because of low weight.
What else can I do to make him for comfortable? Any tips or ideas?
Can a dog tell if a companion dog is sick or injured?
Wednesday, July 4th, 2012My 10yr old basset Tucker has a bleeding lesion on his groin area for which we are about to see a vet. My 2y old pug mix usually sleeps inside with us but for the past week he has slept outside and refuses to leave Tucker’s side. He has this expression of sadness on his face and genuinely seems concerned about his buddy. I think he’s worried. What do you think?

What should I give my sick pet rat?
Monday, July 2nd, 2012I have a rat probably six months or a little younger that has a pretty bad weeze and cough. She is eating and drinking fine and isn’t acting weird, but the cough sounds really bad. Is there anything I can give her?
