White Corgi whose paws turn pink

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

I have a 10-year-old Corgi who has been in pretty good health his whole life. But sometimes some of the white fur on his front paws turns a pinkish hue and he begins to lick them quite a bit. Is there anything I can do to remedy this? We live in Wisconsin – might the cold weather have something to do with it?

Thanks!

12 y/o Cairn Terrier with allergies

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

I have a cairn terrier – male- about 12 years old. He is frisky and in pretty good overall health except on occasion he gets terrible skin allergies and his whole body feels hot. When this happens I notice that his breath also gets really bad. I changed his food to an all natural vegetarian diet about 9 months ago and everything cleared up. He was happy and his coat looked better than it ever has and his breath was not bad. I thought I had solved the problem but then out of nowhere it happened again. I just wish I knew the source of this problem. Any suggestions? I don’t like to give him cortisone shots and prefer natural ways of dealing with problems if possible. I would really like to know how to prevent this in the future. He gets 1/2 can of food in the morning and 1 cup of dry food at night. No table food but he does get a little piece of cheese each morning to take a thyroid pill. AT night he gets a small natural treat at bedtime. He always acts hungry.

Sheltie suffering with paw allergies

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

My 9 year old mixed breed dog has a hot spot on his rear paw. My 1 1/2 yr old sheltie has been suffering with paw allergies since May. He has been taking prednisone and benedryl on alternating days for a long time. Now the vet thinks it may be food allergies. He started eating special food-venison and potato last week, with no treats. He is now taking vetalog, rather than predisone. I want to see him off all meds and get some relief from the allergies. Any recommendations?

Lucille my 13 year old Tabby has suddenly a large area under her front right leg and the area is missing all its hair and is red red raw skin. She is an indoor cat so I don’t know what caused it. What should I do? I put a bit of Neosporin on it but she is not human. I first noticed this two days ago.

Terrier with eating problems

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

We have a soft-coated wheaten terrier. About every three to four months she stops eating. Our veterinarian has done an endoscopy, blood tests, and no real diagnosis. Endoscopy showed indentations in the stomach lining (I guess like little ulcers) and x-rays indicated a cloudy look for her stomach. Only two anitibiotics, carafate, and pepcid AC seem to get her over each episode.

I am wondering if Acidopholis would be of any help? She weighs about 25-28 lbs. If it would, what dosage?

Would human probiotics be good for her, if so, what amounts?

Thank You for any help you can give.
