Is there a home remedy for my dog skin problem?

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

I have a male pit.  He has fire red rash on his chest and swollen feet.  I already took him to a vet  and the staff said its bacterial infection. After medication his sickness went away but rashes are still there. I notice heat makes it more reddish.  I have many shampoo’s and different foods. Nothing works. Can anyone help me?

My cat is always licking herself. What can I do to get her to stop????

Friday, November 11th, 2011

My cat seems to spend almost every waking moment licking herself.  Her fur is damp and sometimes she licks so much she creates a bald spot.  She also throws up more than average.  I think it is a bad habit.  What can I do to get her to stop?

Lab has facial swelling that comes and goes. Suggestions?

Sunday, February 13th, 2011

Our Labrador has been having some swelling in his face. It comes and goes. Sometimes it is from his nose all the way to his forehead and other times it is just spots on his nose. He did have one day of vomiting and diarrhea. His eyes will even look a bit droopy. It never stays swollen for long. The only thing I can think of is that it looks like he has been eating the leaves off one of my houseplants. Any suggestions if this doesn’t stop occurring soon?

Thanks, Renee

After dog outside her face is swollen

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

I have a small 18 month old female collie. Around 20 – 30 mins after taking her out on an overgrown track (grass, nettles etc) her face began to ripple and swelled to more than twice its size within seconds, in front of my eyes.  Her eyes were ‘Chinese’ looking and she basically looked like a Staff Bull Terrier. She did not seem distressed, was eating and drinking as normal and swallowing and barking OK.  The swelling has gone down quite a bit this morning and she is still eating OK.  She has been up this track many times, but not for a couple of weeks due to the overgrowth.

Could this be a bite or sting?

Collie with dry, itchy skin

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

I have a 12 year old Collie with very dry skin itchy.  She’s always scratching and biting her lower back.  Besides wearing away her fur and driving me crazy, I’m getting concerned.

My friend suggests adding fish oil to her diet to help.

Does this sound like a good solution?  I’ve tried so many other solutions and nothing is working.

Thanks

My dog has a fungus problem that just won’t go away

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

About three years ago my 2 year old King Charles Spaniel was diagnosed with fungus on his skin.  At the time my vet told me to bath him in betadine, leaving on his skin for 5 minutes before shampooing him off and that seemed to help for a little while. Next I tried an antifungal cream which also helped but smelled TERRIBLE.  I’ve taken him to a specialist who gave me some wipes and other medication for the condition, but nothing seems to get a good handle on this reoccurring problem.

I’m at my wits end.  Can you help???

Help. My dog is scratching but doesn’t have fleas!

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Hi, I just read your post on fleas and I wanted to tell you my story and hope you might offer some help.

I have a 10 y/old Chihuahua that’s constantly scratching. I’ve tried giving her a bath every 2 – 3 weeks but that hasn’t helped. She doesn’t have fleas and I haven’t seen anything else on her. Sometimes she scratches till she is almost bleeding.

Could this simply be dry skin?

What else can I do to help her stop scratching?

Please help. She’s miserable.

Thank you,

Diana

6 y/o Golden w/severe allergies

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

My 6 year old male Golden Retriever has severe environment and food allergies, hypothyroidism, and has now been diagnosed with epilepsy. He has several seizures a month that only occur while he is sleeping. This has gone on for at least 3 years. , some weeks there are several and some none. We were always told that dogs dream. He has been on so much medication (for allergies, bacterial and yeast infections, and most recently for a sleep disorder that the neurologist thought he might have ) these last couple years and has been miserable and not his happy golden self. Most recently, the clomipromine for the “sleep disorder” made him a total zombie and he stopped eating, playing, taking walks, etc. The neurologist is now suggesting meds for epilepsy. Are there alternatives to this that you could tell me about? We would like to help our dog but want him to have a chance to be a dog and not experience side effects of yet more medication. Note: we did give him 5 doses of gabapentin and saw side effects after just this (aggressive chewing, clumsiness, excessive thirst) he is currently on allergy vaccines, soloxine, primor and fluconazole (for skin/yeast infections. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
