There has been new research that indicates many of the cats that we diagnosed as having Asthma is actually a reaction to heartworms. I would advise radiographs of the chest if not already done and heartworm antibody and antigen tests to make sure it is indeed asthma. Treatment for asthma is usually steroids injectable or oral and bronchial dialators either oral or by nebulization. It is best that you discuss all your options for your cat with your veterinarian. Some cats resist treating and some owners are not committed to doing everything that could be done because of this. However, your best source of information is your local veterinarian. Make sure they know your commitment level.

If you are fairly certain your cat has asthma, then an option for treatment is using inhaler therapy. Your have to get a cat spacer (like AeroKat), but they use the same medication that humans do-albuterol for the “wheezing” and a steroid inhaler for the inflammation. The steroids don’t go to the rest of the body like the oral medication and reduce the risk of diabetes while still helping to control the asthma symptoms. Your vet can help you get the spacer and script out the medication, and follow up to make sure the meds are helping.

what is a good alternative treatment for asthma? i’m looking for some alternative medicine stuffs “
I have heard that to comfort your cat with asthma, boil some water and add a few drops of oil of eucalyptus (spell?) and let the cat breath in the vapor. Please do not consider this as a substite for regular vetrinary care, I respect my local vet and do as they suggest! However it may help in addition to what your vet prescribes.
asthma simply sucks! i’ve suffered from it for several years already and i’m sorry i don’t have any suggestions for your cat.
