It has been about two months since my dog’s heat cycle ended, and she is exhibiting all the classic symptoms of false pregnancy, except swollen mammary glands and lactation.
Can it be false pregnancy without lactation?
This has happened to her before, and I read once a dog does this; she will almost always do this.
Thank you.
Raymond
If a dog exhibits a false pregnancy, she’s more likely to do it each time she goes into heat. False pregnancies usually result in engorgement as well as swelling of the belly. She is also more likely to develop mastitis, metritis, and pyometras, none of which are good. It’s highly recommended that dogs that suffer false pregnancies be spayed. The majority of us highly recommend that any female dog be spayed. Unspayed dogs run a high risk of uterine, ovarian, and mammary cancer, and severe uterine infections (pyometra). Not to mention that always present risk of pregnancy. The world doesn’t need another litter of puppies no matter how cute they are. There aren’t enough homes for the ones already here and for every litter born, a litter does in the shelter.
