Helping pet owners get health help For their pets

My dog has a fungus problem that just won’t go away

About three years ago my 2 year old King Charles Spaniel was diagnosed with fungus on his skin.  At the time my vet told me to bath him in betadine, leaving on his skin for 5 minutes before shampooing him off and that seemed to help for a little while. Next I tried an antifungal cream which also helped but smelled TERRIBLE.  I’ve taken him to a specialist who gave me some wipes and other medication for the condition, but nothing seems to get a good handle on this reoccurring problem.

I’m at my wits end.  Can you help???

I know how frustrating these types of problems can be and how hard they can be to fix. I’ve had similar problems with a cat in the past and what worked ultimately was a whole dietary change after her condition was ‘calmed down’.

Some pets have autoimmune problems – more common in purebreds unfortunately – that leave them susceptible to a variety of skin and health conditions. Tackling the problems involves time and dedication and the right vet. There is no one good answer to give you, but I’ll suggest you look at both traditional and complementary therapies (check our Holistic/Alternative directory for local help) in your fight to help your dog.

We wish you all the best,

My border collie had the same problem. Have you tried an antihistamene? Keeping the hair shorter helped as well.
