Doberman with scabs around his neck. What is it???

I have a 8 month old doberman and he has developed sores that are just scabbed over around his neck and a few on sides and a couple on his leg.

I took him to the vet yesterday to get him examined and the vet did a blood culture. Vet said that it was probably from mosquito bites. Recommended a mosquito and fly Advantage treatment.

When I brought him home and went to bed he began to have the runs and vomited all his food up once. The runs lasted till this morning and I made him stay in his crate and rest today.

This afternoon I noticed that there are many more of the scabbed over sores. I am really concerned. I travel and am not home to take him to my vet.

ANY IDEAS WHAT THIS COULD BE?????

    Hello Bill,

It sounds like your dog is having an allergic reaction to something and that seems to be what the vet thinks too. You have to call back and let the vet know that after using what he/she suggested, your pup got worse.

Some breeds are susceptible to allergies and sometimes a dog can have an autoimmune disorder which can also manifest with bumps and sores.

Let’s see what feedback you get from your vet and from other pros.

    Best wishes for your dog,

  2. do skin scrapings for mange and fungus.

My Dobie had the same thing. We did mild skin scrapings and they were shown to have folliculitis of the hair follicles. Two weeks of antibiotics and she was just fine after that.

Folliculitis usually looks like red pimples with a hair in the center of each one. The pimples may have pus in them, and they may itch or burn. When the pimples break open, they may drain pus, blood, or both.,
