My dog is requiring a rabies shot to get his license renewed. Is there any way to get around this requirement? I am opposed to vaccinations and if there is a way to have him licensed without giving him the shot, I’d like to know.

No and absolutely no are the 2 answers. The small picture is that yes vaccines in very few pets (comparatively) cause serious illness. Then compare that to the horrible outbreaks of rabies and suffering that accompanies the disease, the little picture is dwarfed. I once thought long and hard too about vaccines until I visited a 3rd world country and watched a veterinarian on his own income and time walk through his town vaccinating strays so the people of his town would not die. I would also remind you that you live very close to a country that is ravaged by rabies. Now that our borders seem to be fluid, the danger is more real than ever. In my own town I have had to put 4 animals to sleep because they were unvaccinated at the owners request (cats). The owner woke up to find the cats playing with a sick bat and yes you guessed it, rabies. Just recently a client that admittedly travels back and forth to Mexico brought a dog unvaccinated with rabies in to our hospital and exposed 14 members of my staff to the possibility of rabies. The dog was suffering terribly and was euthanized at the owners request. So now we have a family and an entire business on edge while we wait for results. And if positive not a pretty picture. The people exposed have to go through a series of shots (5) at great cost with the anxiety of less than 100% prevention. So if that is not enough to persuade you then maybe this link will. Do not watch this unless you want to see what the final stages of rabies looks like. I am as passionate as you are about this but there are BIG reasons for this law and this is a good law. Please adhere to it and call with any questions you may have.

Unless your dog is ill (the inserts in the vaccines say to only give to healthy animals) and you can find a veterinarian to write an exemption (most oncologists write exemptions for dogs with cancer), you need to stay legal even though the vaccine protects most dogs for life. You can prevent most of the negative effects of the rabies vaccine by not giving other vaccines unless there is an epidemic and YOU decide it is necessary (along with consulting your complementary veterinarian), by learning Reiki which can “take the bad out” of things. You would hold the syringe in your hand until your hand cools, then in the car you Reiki the injection site, then you Reiki the entire dog for as many days as they “draw” energy from your hands.

There ARE instances where the rabies vaccination need not be given, such as serious illnesses. Also, there is a study underway right now to prove that the immunity from this vaccine lasts much longer than the 3 years we have been told. The study is called “The Rabies Challenge Fund”. Personally, I believe that the immunity from the initial set of vaccinations our dogs get as puppies is lifelong.
