Seizures started after my dog received Lyme booster.

I have a 21 month old female collie who started exhibiting neuro issues after receiving a Lyme booster in January. She is now having one petite mal seizure about every one to two months. Rather than conventional Rx with phenobarb or KBr, is there something natural that can be given? I would rather not have to watch her acquire new problems from side effects.

  1. Dr. Winston says:

The siezures probably have nothing to do with the vaccine as idiopathic epilepsy generally starts between 1 and 4 years of age.

If the seizures are infrequent ( not more than 1 every 6 weeks) and are mild and last for only seconds to minites with a complete recovery I would not consider treating if it was my own dog.

There is no established alternative therapy that has been shown to stop siezures however some things may seem to work as the frequency of the seizures can vary on their own with months of no activity or more than one episode with or without treatment…hope this helps

  2. I agree with Dr. Winston the diagnosis from western standpoint epilepsy and it is not related to the vaccine. As far as eastern medicine, seizures are classified as either liver blood deficiency and stangnation or liver heat rising where it comes in gusts like the wind. If your dogs constitution is wood, which have predispostion to firey liver, the nature of the seizures can be more violent and frequent. Your pet will be agitated and angry, but not necessarily fearful. The treatment should be concentrated at clearing the liver heat and unblocking the liver stagnation. Usually harmonizing the energy between the liver, gall bladder, spleen and pancreas should be done. I recommend gastrodia and uncaria formula by golden flower company and liver happy formula by jing tang company. Your pet should be hypoallergenic diet as california natural harring and sweet potao or wellness FP.

To Whom wrote in about the seizure after Lyme vaccine.

Unlike the above responses, I believe, like yourself, that there may be a correlation. It has been documented that many dogs have had seizures and other issues after vaccines. This condition is called vaccinosis I do agree that the liver needs to be addressed but there is certainly more you could do. Homeopathy can sometimes reverse this problem. Simple whole food supplements can also help. These protocols would be to address the individual. Because of this , I can not simply suggest this to you here. However, if you are interested, you can email me @ homeopathyontherange@ me .com

Dr Frank Akawi mentions “Liver Happy”, a chinese herb product, which I’m giving my Aussie Shepherd as part of his treatment for idiopathic seizure clusters. He mentioned a company to get it, but they do not carry it. I would like to find an on-line source, as I think it has helped.

Anyone know where I can get it?

Chinese herbs do work because they are time tested.
