Cat vomiting

Question:
My cat seems to vomit a little more than normal and it seems to have increased over the last few months. I realize cats sometimes vomit and have hairballs and whatnot, but I’m not sure that’s his problem. We switched him last year to a new chicken based food with no corn because his last vet thought it was a corn allergy. It seemed to work for a few months but now he is worse. He doesn’t act like he is in pain and he hasn’t lost any weight. Occasionally, it is whole food, but mostly it is pretty much digested food. Do you have any suggestions or thoughts? I appreciate it!

  1. Ask A Pet Pro at VetLocator.com says:

“Return to your veterinarian for further diagnostics. Cats can vomit for a variety of reasons. It could be parasites, food intolerance, hyperthyroidism or other metabolic disease, motility disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, cancer, heartworm disease…. Your veterinarian will probably want to check bloodwork, take x-rays, look for parasites and possibly run an ultrasound. If it is becoming more frequent, you want to discover the reason before weight loss starts.”

“Vomiting in cats has many causes. Food allergy and food sensitivities are just a couple of the possibilties.Your veterinarian was on the right path by recommending that you try a different food. If that isn’t helping anymore, let your veterinarian know so she (or he) can advise you on what the next steps are in diagnosing the cause.”
