Helping pet owners get health help For their pets

Do I have to keep my pet turtle in a tank?

I used to have family friends who let their turtle roam the house. I know this could be hazardous to the turtle’s health but I really don’t think it’s a big deal. That turtle lived forever. If I wanted to do this in my own home what are the kinds of things I would need to put out for it? I would have to say tortoise.

Thanks.

Amy, are we talking turtle or tortoise? There is a difference. Turtles like to swim and generally hang out in water, so you’ll definitely need a tank for that. Even if it’s a tortoise that will be roaming the house, you’ll want an area to confine him when you’re not around to supervise. I’d suggest getting a tank anyway, though there are other options with a tortoise. One of my friends used a mini kiddie-pool to keep hers in. Do some research on your turtle and find out what type of environment he’d do best in.
