I adopted three ferrets from someone on Craigslist. The condition of their teeth is deplorable. Is there a special fluoride or toothpaste that I can buy? Also one of the older ferret shakes, almost uncontrollably and non-stop, is there a reason for this? How do I help correct this?
Thanks,
Glenne

Glenne, these ferrets need to be vet checked immediately, you can not treat them yourself at home. The teeth will most likely need professional cleaning, possibly some extractions, and if there is infection or gum disease antibiotics will also be needed. The ferret that shakes may have insulinoma (tumors of the pancreas that cause low blood sugar). This is treatable with prednisone (a steroid which helps stabilize glucose) and frequent high protein meals. If not treated, however, the ferret will begin having seizures and die. Get to a vet!
