Bischon prone to crystals in urine. What is causing them?

I have a 7 year old Bischon.  She is prone to crystals in her urine.  She has been on Hills CD and SD and got rid of those crystals and now has UD crystals.  I wonder if you have any clue what is causing them or what I can give her to keep her free of them.  These crystals now are serious and if they form stones, only surgery will remove them.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

What type crystals? Bichons are prone to forming urinary stones. Monitor urine and culture and be sure the ph is right for the type crystals. Crystals do not necessarily mean stones will form.

What kind of crystals does your dog have?

Crystals can form in urine after the sample is taken just from temperature change in the sample. This is not necessarily pathologic. Perhaps get a Vet internist to consult. There should be one in your area.

    Good luck.

My dog is a crystal producer also and Royan Canin has a food called S/O for urinary problems. It is available through veterinarians and it is in a Lime/Silver/White bag. It actually goes after 2 different types of crystals and she has been clean for a couple years now. She is an almost 8 year old schnauzer. Schnauzers are prone to crystals.
