What is it about fish based cat foods that are bad?

I’ve learned that fish based cat foods tend to cause health problem in cats.

But why? What about the fish makes it so bad?

Hi Donna! Most fish used is oceangoing fish, the mercury levels are too high. There’s also a question of salt content in ocean fish and cat’s kidneys have a very hard time with salt. Since it is not mammal ‘meat’ it’s missing some nutrients. I hope this helps.

Hi Donna, we had a pure-bred cat that we only fed sea food based cat food to. He developed crystals in his urine which were painful and expensive to treat. I think the ph balance for some cats is not good, too alkaline.

    Hope that helps!
