Heartworm Recommendation for older dogs?

What is your recommendation re heart worm? Our dogs are about 6 and 7 yrs old, one has chronic allergy related health problems which have improved w/a sarf diet and minimal vaccs…we haven’t gotten them vaccinated for about 5 yrs now. We live in an area which has lots of mosquitoes. What do you recommend re heart worm?

Thanks

Vaccinations prevent disease, and heartworm medications prevent heartworms, as well as many all too common internal parasite infections. I vaccinate my beloved pets and I have them on parasitic preventive medications year round!!

Call a vet in your area and see how prevalent heartworm is so you can make an educated decision.
Of course it is best not to put drugs into and already allergic dog , but if there are lots of heartworm you might need to use it. (ie. Florida is infested)
Some dogs can be allergic to the chewie base used by Heartguard. Interceptor may be a wiser decision for allergic dogs.
Of course this is not a fact , just an observation.

Get a heartworm test, then Heartgard or Interceptor.
