My Sister has a 16yrs old Dachshund/Poodle mix, who has a severe limp, Xrays normal, does not want to give him Rimydal because of possible side effects. Is there anything else which could give him relief and hopefully a cure? He still wants to go for walks etc.
Thank you for your consideration.

Which limb is affected?
Rimadyl is a wonderful drug. EVERTHING has side effects, including oxygen, water and sunlight.

Have you tried a drug called Tramadol? Both myself and my 8yr old Great Dane take it. It is a great pain reliever. Also supplement him with glucosamin, chondroitin, and MSM. This also keeps my Great Dane moving comfortably.
Keep the comfort of the dog in mind.
Try your joint supplements first.
The risk of side effects from Rimadyl are extremely low.
Don’t let irrational fear result in the dog suffering.
I agree about not letting your dog be in pain because of fears about side-effects of Rimadyl. I just started my 11-year-old Airedale on it this weekend and the turn around in just 4 days is miraculous. I had a similar experience with one of our previous Airedales. No side effects and it added years to her well-being.
