Helping pet owners get health help For their pets

If one of my cats got tapeworms do all my pets need dewormer?

The infected cat was given dewormer, as well as my other cat who was at the vet anyway. However, there are two other cats and one dog in the house. Do they all need dewormer? The vet said I should bring them all in, but is that really necessary? I’m having trouble determining if tapeworms are contagious or not. Help!!!

Tapeworms are not contagious. They get them from ingesting a flea. You can either take a poop sample to the vet, or wait to see if you see the small rice looking worms in the poop. With the cats, you will see the dried-up ones on their butt or where they lay or sit. If your animals have fleas, though I would just go ahead and treat them all, it’s not going to hurt.
