I have 2 female rats and I’ve had them since this summer. They are great. They’re very friendly and sociable. The problem is, when I get them out of the cage, they still seem a little timid. When I take them out, I put them in my room and usually do homework. If they get close, something as simple as the flip of a page will make them bolt. I take them out almost every day. I’m not worried about it, I just want to be able to play with them more outside of the cage. Thanks.

Try feeding them treats when they are out of the cage, so that they can associate it with good things. Also, they may just be the timid sort, over time they will be completely comfortable. Just give them lots of love and goodies and they will be as happy as ever.
Good luck!
