Beagle with diarrhea

I have a 12yr old beagle that continually has diarrhea. My vet has done many blood tests & antibiotics. The blood tests are always normal. She just had him on flagyl for 2 wks. During that time the diarrhea went away but we thought he might of had a slight seizure. So on reading here on the computer I asked her to try Fortiflora. It has only been 1 wk, stools aren’t bloody anymore & are a little soft but not as many trips outside. But today he is acting sick didn’t want to eat & had many trips outside. I think it was gas making him think he had to go potty. Then he was shaking . Very nervous today. But my husband has some serious medical problems & the dog I think picks up on this.
Please help. Thank You

PS. my husbands always thinks it’s the heartguard plus medicine.

Have you had an Ultrasound or Endoscopy for a further Diagnosis. Have you had a TLI or cPLI? Have cultures been done of the stool or has a sample been sent to the lab? Has a trial of pancryzme been tried? Has a trial of prednisone, cyclosporine, etc. been tried? There are alot of tests that can be run to figure this out. There are new gi tests that exam enzymes in the gi tract as well. You are just at the beginning. I would rec. an Ultrasound or endoscopy/biopsy if it was my patient.

I read your issue and my suggestion to you would be to have your veterinarian run a Senior Work-up on your pet. That would include some specialized lab work, radiographs and a fecal. In a senior pet you need to consider other things that might be causing the diarrhea.

    Good luck.

I have had a couple cases like this that Metronidazole works for a short period of time but not indefinitely. The best response I have seen is with a medication called Tylan. We order the tub of chicken product that can be sprinkled onto the food. You might want to talk to your vet to see if it is right for your pet.

    Your dog needs intestinal biopsies.
