14 year old dog has trouble urinating. Looking for natural solution

Hi! My 14 yr old dog is having trouble urinating. The Vet put her on Amoxi 250mg caps – 1 capsule orally every 12 hours with food. Is there anything that I could give her naturally. The Vet has suggested surgery but at this age, I would rather find a natural solution if possible. Thanks for your help!

What is the diagnosis as why your doggie is having trouble urinating? Is it stones in bladder? Was urine cultured by cystocentesis? Know that there are internal medicine specialists that you could take your doggie and get a second opinion. I always encourage people to do this when it is a complicated case or when things are not getting better. It’s whats in my patient’s best medical interest and for the most part you also learn from these cases by referring them.

You didn’t say why your dog is having trouble urinating. You need a diagnosis before you can ask for a treatment. Was a urinalysis done? Are there bladder stones? Is there kidney disease? Is there arthritis in the lower back that makes it uncomfortable to squat? Answers to these questions will start you on the path to diagnose and then correct the specific problem.

Hi! I am sorry I have not got back about my dog but my husband had 2 heart attacks and then bi-pass surgery. In answer to the extra questions, she has been diagnosed to have baldder stones. There was not a urinalysis done. She finished her meds but is still uncomfortable when urinating. She is neutered. She weighs about 35 pounds – a Sheltie/Beagle mix. It will be a couple of days before I can check the blog as my husband’s hospital is out of town and I am not getting on the computer much ‘ til he gets home. Thank you!

  5. Hello:

As far as natural approach I recommend you put her on SD diet made by hills to try dissolving the stones with diet. In addition, I recommend Amber stone transforming formula and Polyporus and dianthus. These two formulas made By golden flower herbal formular. The herbs with help dissolve the stone by decreasing heat, dampness, inflammation and increase fluid to the lower burner including the bladder and the kidneys. I recommend repeating the Radiographs in 3 months to evaluate the stones.
